Process

The purpose of this webquest is to aid you in locating the information needed; however, do this before you start: Know what you need to do! Read through the following goals, then use the numbered steps that follow to sequentially complete this task. Your goals are to:
  1. Research each of the links related to the colonies.
  2. Use the hand-out to help guide your searches.
  3. Use your research to write the most important information that you discover from the links.
  4. Indicate your source(s) for ALL information!
  5. Plan your poster and presentation when your summaries of each of the categories are completed.

STEPS

  1. Before you begin planning your poster and presentation, ensure that each website is full of interesting, detailed information [not just your colony's site]. If they are, you should proceed.
  2. Use the useful links to search for the required information for your Colony.
  3. Use your graphic organizer to help record your findings.
  4. After your research is completed, focus your attention on the Colonial poster and presentation.

POSTER

As an expert historian on your assigned Colony, you will create a poster that addresses the following questions:
  1. Who was the founder of the Colony?
  2. What were the economic characteristics of the Colony?
  3. What was the predominant religion?
  4. What Government was established in the Colony?
  5. Why did the founders leave Europe to find the Colony?

Your POSTER should reflect the Colony in the following ways:
  1. Poster must be at least 2 ft. x 2 ft. AND shaped like the Colony.
  2. All key ideas must be written on the poster.
  3. All information must be accurate AND all words should be spelled correctly.
  4. At least five visuals should accompany the written aspects and may be computer-generated or drawn by hand.
  5. Strive for a poster that is neat, colorful, accurately detailed, and visually appealing.

PRESENTATION

You will deliver a 2-minute presentation from your poster in which you will summarize the key ideas from your research, and then answer the following questions. Your response should be different from what is already on your poster -- and it (your response) should include your original thoughts, as well as your thoughts on the following questions:
  1. What are 3 unique qualities about this Colony that would draw families from Europe to live here?
  2. What are the key aspirations of the people who live in this particular colony?
  3. Choose one of your teachers to live in this Colony, explaining in detail who it would be and why.
